Last weekend I was so lucky as to go the German capital, enjoying the amazing Spring weather (27 degrees) and get inspired by Berlin's retail culture.
Hidden in a beautiful backyard in the center of Berlin in Münzstr. 21, Andreas Murkudis has set up his stores for luxurious, conceptual design products. Men's (AM1) and women's (AM2) fashion are presented in two different stores situated on either side of the yard.
The range of labels includes among others M. Margiela, A.F. Vandeforst, Yamamoto, Sophia Kokosalaki and the designs by his brother Kostas Murkudis.
The mixture of industral- inspired interior, high fashion clothes, books and interior design creates a sophisticated yet creative atmosphere, in which you dare asking questions about the stories behind the products.
A third store is dedicated to the showcasing of beautifully crafted handbags by Margiela, Céline and accessories, such as spices and room fragrances. The products are presented in a huge metal rack, evoking the association with industrial production work places.
In the AM2 store, introducing the womenswear, the walls of one room are covered with old and cracked kitchen tiles. This decoration causes a feeling of authenticity and in the broadest sense of home, too.
Altogether, Murkudis managed to create his own inspiring, beautiful, cabinet-like world right in the center of a pulsating city as Berlin, which I find admirable.
